According to a 2022 report by the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center, 48% of first-time, full-time students who enrolled in degree-granting institutions in fall 2019 will not graduate within six years. This means that nearly half of all students who start college will not finish.

The report also found that students of color are more likely to drop out of college than white students. For example, 57% of Black students will not graduate within six years, compared to 43% of white students.
